Modric calls Croatia’s England defeat a 'catastrophic night'

Luka Modric, the long‑time captain of the Croatian national side, said he was “ashamed” of how his team performed in the recent match against England.

The defeat came in a group stage encounter that left Croatia with a disappointing result, and Modric’s comments reflected the frustration felt by players and fans alike.

Modric’s remarks underline the high expectations that come with representing Croatia on the international stage, especially after the nation’s strong showing in past tournaments.

With the tournament still underway, the Croatian squad will look to regroup and improve in their remaining fixtures, hoping to regain the form that earned them a place in the competition.

As the group stage progresses, the focus will shift to how the team can turn the lessons from this “catastrophic night” into a stronger performance in the next matches.
