Carrick urges more clean sheets to revive United's season
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has said that the team needs more defensive solidity to reverse their fortunes. He highlighted the importance of clean sheets as United prepare to face Como in the Champions League.
Michael Carrick, newly appointed as Manchester United’s head coach, has made it clear that the team’s lack of defensive consistency is a key factor behind their disappointing start to the campaign.
In a recent press briefing, Carrick stressed that achieving more clean sheets would be a vital step in turning the season around, giving the squad a chance to collect points and build confidence.
The club’s next challenge comes in the Champions League, where they will take on Como in their opening group fixture. Carrick sees this match as a testing ground for the defensive improvements he wants to instil.
A tighter backline could reduce the number of goals conceded, which in turn would help United secure crucial draws and wins, boosting their standing in both domestic and European competitions.
Moving forward, Carrick plans to focus training on defensive drills and set-piece organization, with the hope that a stronger defence will translate into better results in the weeks ahead.
