Welsh chief calls FIFA reform claims ‘unsubstantiated’

Noel Mooney, chief executive of the Football Association of Wales, has dismissed recent claims that FIFA is planning sweeping reforms. He said the allegations are unfounded and have no bearing on Welsh football.

Noel Mooney, the chief executive of the Football Association of Wales (FAW), has publicly rejected recent statements that FIFA is preparing for major reforms. The comments came after FIFA president Gianni Infantino suggested that changes to the organisation’s structure and governance were on the horizon.

Mooney described the reform claims as unsubstantiated, stating that there is no evidence to support the notion that FIFA is moving towards a new set of regulations or a restructuring of its executive bodies. He emphasised that the FAW has no role in any such proposed changes.

According to Mooney, the lack of concrete information means that Welsh football can continue to focus on its own priorities, such as player development, league management and national team performance. The chief executive said that the FAW’s current agenda remains unchanged.

While FIFA’s future plans remain unclear, Mooney’s comments underscore the uncertainty that surrounds the governing body’s potential reforms. He urged stakeholders to wait for official announcements before drawing conclusions.

For now, the FAW will maintain its existing structure and continue to work with national and international partners to promote the sport in Wales. The organisation will monitor any developments from FIFA and respond accordingly when official details become available.
